A list of luxuries

June 18th, 2011

I was sitting and musing this morning and began a list of the luxuries I have in my life, things that really bring joy into living.  Here’s what I have so far:

  • Making fresh bread and eating it hot with real butter.
  • Wearing long, beautiful dresses around the house.
  • Growing fresh herbs.
  • Clean sheets on the bed.
  • Making strawberry shortcake from scratch with real cream (whipped just before serving).
  • A fuchsia silk suit bought unworn at a thrift shop for $2.50.
  •  A shelf of organized lotions and perfumes.
  • One excellent and lovely purse in an interesting color to use everyday.
  • A shelf of Patricia McKillip first edition hardbacks.
  • One large pillow in the living room in a luminous color.
  • Creating paintings exactly as ‘I’ please.
  • Gorgeous blank books to fill with odd musings (such as these).
  • A hot bath with a book and no time limit.
  • A drawer of pressed and exactly folded sweaters and pullovers.
  • A closet with only clothes that I love.
  •  Gorgeous smelling lotions (bought on sale 😉 ).
  • Fresh flowers.
  • Original artwork in every room of the house.
  • Fresh, homemade from scratch, blueberry muffins with streusel topping.
  • Burning candles with glorious scents that fill the house.
  • Two sturdy easels (one large, one medium) in my studio.
  • Shelves full of inspiring art books.
  • A perfect pair of black high heel mary janes with a small intricate brass buckle.
  • A collection of teacups chosen over time, each with it’s own individual beauty.
  • A journal filled with my own illustrations.
  • Two kolinsky sable watercolor brushes.
  • Three tubes of my favorite oil paint (transparent gold ochre),
  • A fluffy, arrogant, pampered, orange striped cat (Hector).
  • A husband who tells me I am beautiful, every single day.
  • Unexpected, odd, hilarious texts from my husband.
  • A solid wooden bookcase made by my parents and dedicated by them on the back to me.
  • Receiving a bouquet of flowers every month, delivered by a local florist on a random day.  An arrangement my husband makes with them and renews every year.
  • Lace lingerie.
  • A string of pearls worn with jeans.
  • Napping in my husbands arms for hours on a long free afternoon.
  • A fast internet connection.

Website updated!

June 17th, 2011

I’ve finally fixed all the bugs (okay, I figured out what I was doing wrong :p) with my website.  New paintings in all the categories.  New layout.  Hurray!  Take a look and let me know what you think 🙂

Onwards

June 16th, 2011

I’m pretty sure that I have all the bugs worked out now.  Heh, we’ll see.

I’ve been working sporadically as the summer starts, I don’t know, I got onto a baking jag for a while…..oh well, friends and co-worker ate well for a while (not going to talk about what it did to my waistline :p).

I’ve been going through old sketchbooks, looking to see if I can get rid of some.  Trust me, you don’t have to keep everything you’ve ever drawn, painted, sculpted, whatever.  So I found some sketches that might turn into good ideas and was able to get toss a few sketchbooks.  I also trashed several canvas boards with unfinished (never would be finished) and unsuccessful paintings.  I don’t care for canvas board AT ALL, but it is convenient for painting en plein aire.  I’m not buying it anymore.  Stretched canvas only from here on (well, stretcher bars and canvas since I generally stretch my own).

A couple of the unfinished paintings in my last blog died.  One from being overworked, the other from getting stale sitting on my easel, unfinished.   If I let a painting hang around unfinished too long, one or the other is bound to happen.

On a happier note, I have some more finished paintings to show below 🙂

3This is not such a good photo, blurry.

Well, thank goodness I finally remembered how I made it work before.  LOL, pics uploaded.

By George (that would be Hector) I think I’ve got it!

March 20th, 2011

I futzed around and through purely non-scientific means discovered a way to make my images show up again…..maybe not the best or easiest way, but whatever.

So here’s what’s on the easel and drawing table now.

I’m working on these nudes as quickly as I can.  I find that if I let them sit on the easel too long, they start to stagnate.  I start hating them and don’t want to look at them.  Heh.  So I try to get them done as quickly as i can.  Also, I do not want, I will not, overwork them.  I am striving for the swift capture of the beauty, the thought, the sensation.  I am learning to let go of the fear and inhibitions.  Yes, I do want people to look at my art, hopefully like (love??) it, but at least see it.  But the most important part of this act of creation, is my own truth.  I must create it.  The trying to please others is the death of art….at least of my art.  I am giving myself the freedom (and permission) to paint precisely as I please.

How could it be otherwise?

Technical difficulties? LOL hopefully fixed…or maybe not

Update 3/20/2011

Fixed the problem….or maybe I’m now going around my elbow…etc.  Heh.  Anyway, here are the sketches.  Wow, it feels good to have figured it out (and this was by blind luck and insane (my only kind) logic).

Alright, that last post didn’t allow my pics to show.  I’ll give it another try here.  First, I’ll let you know, I’m in the process of revamping my website www.intheneverwas.com.  I’m hoping to have it done by the first week of March.

I’m in the midst of a series of oil paintings.  So far 3 are complete, with 2 more on the easels, another lightly sketched in on canvas, and several (not sure how many) that will follow.  They revolve around female nudes with lit candles inside the heads.  This is a concept that I began playing with 2 months ago, then it took hold of my mind and I have been working steadily on them since.   I’ll show some sketches now.

That’s it for tonite.  More soon.  I swear I’m getting better at this.

A new year and new paintings

January 6th, 2011

This year has been amazingly busy.  However, it is terrible of me to go so long between updates.  So now, time to catch up.  This will be “The Year of Productivity.”  Heh.  I do have a goal for producing paintings regularly.   It’s ambitious, but I am capable.  Keep watching 🙂

On my easel and drawing table at the moment.

Mouse painting

This painting started as a sketch I made while my students were working.

Back at it

June 21st, 2009

It has been way too long since I last posted.  Going to have to work on that.  Here’s the latest finished painting (finally).   ‘Woodland Council’ is 24″ x 40″.  I’ve been working on this painting for months.  All I can think right now is thank goodness its done!

The Impeccable Word

February 28th, 2009

I think I may have to get Jody to retake a picture if this one.  Essential details are not showing up.  Of course nothing can compete with seeing the real thing.  Oh well, doing the best I can.  This one is destined for a frame and a place of honor, no languishing in the portfolio for her.The Impeccable Word

  Rabbit Woman

I just finished this painting last night.  Jody immediately claimed it as his, :D.  I started out intending to go in a completely different direction, but it seemed to have a mind of its own, so here it is.
